The Mark 4 is twenty years old in November and I have just done a clean and refurb of the wheels as a birthday treat,see pics The wheel wells were scrubbed clean and sprayed with new underseal and the suspension hardware arms were coated with protective corrosion resistor, the static beams and fixings coated with a slight film of sprayed underseal ,this prevents atmospheric corrosion.The rest of the under floor is rust free as it was like new factory finish. I did the underside with Dinitrol 6 years ago when I bought the car and it was a good move as the area around the diff and above is still corrosion free.

@Stuno1 As regards the wheels question you posed Stu my car goes in tomorrow to Lexus Cheltenham for a major service and some personalisation, my wheels have been diamond cut once before so I want to preserve 'the one more cut ' for the future so I'm having them fully stripped and powder coated in a dark Anthracite with a slight satin sheen to the surface I didn't want a glossy finish. And the calipers are going from black to 'Brembo Yellow' I'll post up a thread with lots of pics when I get her back. 🐀

Very nice indeed. I've only ever heard good things about the latest Mazda models and have been impressed when I've looked. Not to mention they seem to be chasing market share so 15% discount seems to be the starting point for negotiation on new cars so they represent very good value, especially given the equipment levels. Reading back through this thread, it occurs to me that - as with most things - it's all about opinions, needs vs wants and personal preference, often based on your own values and beliefs. My 'values' are around quality and comfort when it comes to cars, rather than practicality or 'the drive.' Cars aren't so different to houses in that regard. After all, I could buy a 2 bedroom house in London if I wanted to live in the city, but my preference was to live in a bigger house in the country. That's my preference but I have plenty of friends who still feel they 'need' the buzz of living in London. As with @Linas.Pand the power discussion even though I don't - and don't know anybody - in my social circle who drives fast or who would feel they need a car with more power than a 300h (or a Fiesta Ecoboost for that matter!) I guess that doesn't mean that there isn't a small demand for those more powerful products. I don't understand it and never will, but like living in London, I don't really need to understand it to understand that it is there. Presumably Lexus have made a decision that they won't chase that market in the U.K., which leaves those who want such products to go elsewhere. Time will tell if that's the right decision for the brand.

At the half term break just gone, the family and I went up to Skye. We were so very lucky with the weather and the midges were not so bad. 3 bikes on the back (plus one in the boot!), picture is the Glenelg to Skye ferry, a very romantic way on to the Isle. Over 1000 miles with the rack and bikes and it felt very solid, so I can really recommend the Saris. My LS never missed a beat and I averaged about 26mpg. Car photo is at the house where we stayed in an area called Waternish, the house being in Loch Bay. It is a beautiful place and our fourth time there but never with such great weather. Didn't see another LS all the way there or back but amazingly a 400 overtook me just outside of Dunvegan. Love my LS.

It is not that much off topic (the examples are), the point we discussed was quite simple - Is ES300h fast or slow, is it fast "enough" for modern premium saloon or not. It seems taking away how much people are "willing" to pay for something it is statistically slow car and in it's segment represents minority's choice.

Might be worth making sure the welds are ok at the same time as they are known to fail occasionally losing the odd tip. When I originally bought my ISF you could only buy the whole fake tip assembly at £400 a corner - was one of the advantages of the H&S exhaust system for me.

Hi all just saying hi and checking what going on I am a long time Lexus guys but fogo5 all my log in crap so made a new start just picked up my 4th Lexus , a GS F and still getting to know it how many on here have the GS f as I don’t have the user guide i need to set my nite screen ,as it a bit bright at nite

@First_Lexus you will be surprised, but at least using Autotrader data nearly 20% of people chooses to drive something faster then GS300h/250 or for that matter IS250, 3% actually chooses cars under 5s 0-60. Based on that 1 in every 5 car owners in UK would be of opinion that GS300h is slow. That is 20 times more then you stated (even thought I understand you didn't actually mean 99% and it was more of expression rather then statistical claim). I agree that is not majority, but again here we talking only about UK with retarded speed limits and terrible anti-motorists culture, still 20% is not exactly small percentage or 1 in 5 something we can consider rare. If I go further, that is based on all cars on sale made from 1900 (443000 cars), if we refocus statistics on something more relevant - say premium saloons cars of last decade, that percentage will change significantly - we have total 6640 cars listed in this category, 5208 of which are faster then any car fitted with 300h, over 1400 are faster then 5s 0-60. That means in premium saloon category 79% of car owners would consider car under 8s 0-60 as slow. 4 out of every 5! - and that is not my values or opinion - it is cold hard statistics. Now I appreciate you understand that there are different people with different choices, but I don't think comparison with houses captures the point of discussion. If we compare like that, then you can get very nice flat in London in new modern development and run down terrible hole in ex-council housing, or equally you can get mansion in scenic country side or rotten cottage in ex-mining town. What I am saying house in country side even if you choose to live there (certainly I would) is not necessary equal to another house in country side. Equally premium saloon is not necessary equal another premium saloon - one can be brilliant and another can be complete rubbish.

New order by me - that’s all standard on the top trim. It does have a Bose stereo dab etc but can’t comment as I’m a few weeks from delivery. It is the 2.5 which is new to uk but the US had it for a couple of years. This is the spec and colour I’ve ordered

I don't understand why some people are so vociferous in their condemnation against the GS 300h or its probable successor, the ES. Subjectivity and objectivity keep being mentioned. Speed (or acceleration) also keeps being mentioned. None of this is actually relevant. Those that are happy with the GS or those that are happy to buy an ES should be happy to do that without criticism from those that have a different opinion. Those that aren't or wouldn't should just go and buy what they are happy with and stop thinking that they are right and those that disagree are wrong. That's what subjectivity is all about. If we all made objective decisions when buying a car we'd all be driving the same thing and that would probably be boring!

I suspect a lot of Lexus owners will get one. It looks great for the money and a far savvier buy than an ES Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yup! Same here. £800 to replace the originals or £980 for a full brand new H&S. Easy decision.

The wheels look ace all black. Is it as simple as painting them? I i only ask as the standard ones are hand finished.

I agree with you that for that specific purpose Potenza 001s is better tyre, however there are much more for tyre then just high speed cornering. In fact as I mentioned in UK any corner over 70MPH would be illegal anyway, so kind of pointless to make that comparison. Other thing, I actually agree with... Dunlop marketing is a bit misleading - by no means RT2 is UHP tyre... it is probably at best HP (high performance). GT would be UHP, but based on Dunlop marketing material you would never have guessed. That compounded by inherently wrong decision by Lexus to even fit such size and pressure tires on RWD car results in experience you have. However, say in UK with ancient 70MPH limit and potholed roads RT2 would be rather brilliant tire - especially on front axle.

I think we're gonna have to agree to disagree on the tyres, I think the pictures speak for themselves. I'm not saying I have perfect handling now with the 225's, but just by changing to the Potenzas the handling improved beyond what I imagined possible, especially as this improvement was only linked to the tyre compound / sidewall stiffness, nothing else. They are the same size, same PSI (which at 36psi I don't think are under-inflated). I do agree with you that at lower speeds the RT2's performed quite well, but from around 65~70mp/h (depending on how sharp the corner of course) it indeed became a whole different story. For my next set of rear tyres, I'll get some 245s as probably everyone here agrees with you that the "potential ABS problem" story from the dealer is a lie.

When I had my exhaust replaced they removed the tips intact without removing anything, I didn't see anything you couldn't get at and why would you need to go through the boot floor!!!!!, it was 3, 13mm bolts if I remember correctly

If you have the car set up to connect to the Internet then it will just download the destinations and store in the sat nav memory location(s). The trick with the mouse things is to set the sensitivity to your liking so you can use the correct amount of force to move from one point to another. You may want to start with the highest force setting initially and reduce as you get use to it.

I find it easier to search and find things using the electronic guide.

I put this on my build thread but it applies to all cars so thought I'd stick it here as well.... Have you ever sat there in traffic and looked at the steering wheel and thought.... "why did they make it gloss leather when the rest is matt" Well actually it isn't gloss... it's the proverbial polished turd...!! Get yourself a mild leather cleaner and get to work on it, only takes a few minutes but look at the state of the cloth you use, you won't believe how much dirt is on there..... Now sit back and look at your new wheel...!!! It really does make a massive difference, treat it with some leather food and wait for it to dry or you will get fingerprints on it... It now matches the airbag...!!

I assume your float in the washer bottle has gone, just disconnect it as it is (so I believe) an MOT fail. Easy enough to do, nearside front wheel arch job, with car jacked up and wheel off. Replacement floats not cheap, some folks have attempted re-sealing float, which one day I'll get around to maybe doing.

Pretty loaded then. I like how those new Mazdas look. Enjoy the car.

Hello, welcome back. Congrats on the purchase. As always, we want photos!! Screen setup should be same as standard GS. I don't know the answer, but would recommend asking in the normal GS section, rather than GS-F.

Dropped in to a local Kent suoercars meet. Three maclarens, four Lamborghini's, usual array of mercs bm's and porche. Only one F car there though!

That is why I call them commies (communists) - for them one size fits all. Personal needs, preference or personality in itself is not welcome - especially where they have to return on infrastructure. Motorists contribute £36bn a year only from direct taxation and duties and barely gets ~4bn/year of spending. Even then very little of £4bn is spent on actually improving the roads as large part is subsidies for public transport company stakeholders. Arriva made ~£100-300mln each year between 2003-2010 and received over £2bn of government subsidies on top of that (London alone), during the same period bus tickets price rose from ~£0.50 to £1.20 - this is bloody fraud in plain sight... Quite clearly that money could have been to improve appalling congestion, improve the roads, finance car scrapping and environmentally friendly car purchase schemes etc. - yet that is not a problem, problem is motorists as always.

My last Lexus was black (GS F Sport) and it was great when clean but what an effort. Clay bars are my secret weapon.

It's worth pointing out that mine hadn't failed, I only replaced the radiator as a precaution after reading about the possible problem. You can see the rust beginning on mine and I believe it's the spread of rust that causes the joint to fail, that perhaps coupled with the slow failure of the o rings (as used to happen with the early LS400 power steering pump) Here are some more photos that I think show the real possibility of impending doom! The first is the radiator upside down showing the two connections that join the transmission via the rubber hoses, easy to access from underneath if raised up, the second is the bottom of the radiator cut away showing the cooler, the third shows just the cooler separated and how things were deteriorating. As you can see, the cooler is actually very small but in perfect condition in itself. And yes, the coolant needs to be drained but you don't really loose trans fluid, just a tiny amount.
