Hey guys, I hope you are well? I made a video on things you didn't (or some of you may) know about the Lexus IS F. I thought some of you might appreciate a V8 distraction during this quarantine time? Ps this is my friend's 2013 IS F and I love the Ultrasonic blue colour! Stay safe, Thomas2 points

It is the sensor/oscillator for the smart entry system. Lets you unlock the boot if within range and also won't allow the car to lock if it senses the key is inside the boot.2 points

Having completed the first stage of tidying up the paintwork I thought I would see the complete picture, instead of individual panels. I still have to polish and wax the car, as well as sort out the paint scrapes on the offside and around the aerial hole, but it's now looking a bit more presentable. There's still plenty to do, but the list is getting shorter. I am no longer I finishing one job and then adding two more! Without wishing to jeopardise anything, it sounds as though Steve has been able to work his magic on my instrument cluster and all the lights apparently now work. Obviously I spoke too soon about the electronics having survived the damp atmosphere unscathed, because corrosion was indeed the cause of the problem. Hopefully I will get it back next week.2 points

The Range Rover has clever system whereby the front seat passenger can see the dvd being played on the front screen but the driver cannot see World first 'dual view' screen technology The 2010 Range Rover is the first to feature 'dual view' infotainment touch screen technology. The display allows the driver and passenger to view completely different images simultaneously. This means that the passenger can enjoy a DVD movie while the driver follows navigation instructions, all on the same screen. The system uses patented Parallax Barrier technology to alternately hide and reveal columns of pixels to the left and right hand views of the screen.2 points

Thats the trouble with LS400 owners we are all perfectionists, remember the promotion phrase "in pursuit of perfection".2 points

Ah, that's 2 previous owners being member on here and the car is a credit to both of you. ( the 3 of us now 🤪 ) I wonder if any more? Your additions and the black badges all improvements that set the back end off just nicely. And yes @F.A. white being the best colour. Possibly. Maybe. 😎2 points

Roger Many thanks for your comments, the reason I do not want to go down the Ctek route as I already have a similar one, but does not operate in a simple way i.e. you have to tell it type of vehicle each time you put 240v to it and my idea was the not leave on 24hr but on a timer for say 2 hours per day. I also have a very old type at least 25 years old which will charge from total flat if required Colin Thanks for the info on the NOCO might well be a better choice.1 point

Check if it still has the original 12v ancillary battery in it as they seem to have a limited life if not maintained (I.e. topped up on trickle charger) regularly. Other posts out there by other members detailing costs on those if it might need replacing soon. I viewed a 60k black f sport at Lexus Sidcup and passed it up because 1) the salesperson has to jump start it due to knackered battery and 2) it had crash damage repair on the rear left hand quarter panel.1 point

F Sport on 2014 plate, the options were Standard Nav, Premium Nav, heated/cooled seats, ML audio upgrade, sunroof, AVS (adaptive suspension) and metallic paint. Not sure I have the full brochure, but the price list is attached. 1403693616IS300h.pdf1 point

I recently (before) lockdown had a cheque to put in the bank. When I got the nice man explained I could have deposited it by phone banking. Since then I have. The banking app gets you to photograph both sides of the cheque and then it is deposited electronically. Just keep hold of the paper cheque until it has cleared.1 point

Having owned both a Black IS and a white GS I am rather prejudiced as to the colour of the paintwork. Certainly with the black metallic it needs a lot of care to avoid swirls in the paintwork and cleaning can be a bit of a chore. If considering one of these two cars definitely check the condition of the bodywork and interiors as per my previous post regarding the standards of preparation.1 point

I think he likes it, but you ‘F’ boys know it’s good anyway! Gonna be looking for one when the world gets on track!1 point

the white one looks to have a few additional items such as a bumper protector and boot liner, aside from that, and 10,000 miles there really isnt that much in it, the black car has a couple of marks on the headliner that i would like to see cleaned up. They both look to be good cars and i would imagine will be looked over thoroughly before Lexus Bristol let them go out the door, personally i prefer the 300h in darker colours, i think it suits the car better. Neither of them appear to have the premium sound system in them, IIRC the premium system has the mouse controller and certianly has better sound quality over the normal system.1 point

Thanks chaps for your input. I have run Windows Defender and everything seems to be tidy at the moment. herbs, I have been into your link and have read it through and I decided to uninstall the rogue update. I'll see what happens over the next few days. I have also updated to version 1909 with a build number of 18363778. If I decide to give Bitdefender a go, do I need to turn off the Windows antivirus or can I run the two at the same time?1 point
-
@bluenose1940 Geoff, just by coincidence I happened to see this article today. It may have nothing whatsoever to do with your current situation but if the rogue update is present on your machine, I'd be very tempted to uninstall it just in case: Linky1 point

The DVLA are experts at loosing documents, but will never admit to making any sort of mistake. My wife had to renew her driving licence sending in our marriage certificate. They said they never received it, but we know 100% it was in with all the other paperwork. Like many other government departments there is no bringing out the truth, and holding them to some sort of responsibility. After all it is your word against a government department that can never make a mistake. John.1 point

I can't help thinking an LS lowered like that wouldn't have the ride comfort you'd want. Looks good for shows etc but not for me, I'd prefer a standard car made how it was intended. I put a bigger set of wheels on a previous LS400 but changed them back very quickly. Is this one for sale then?1 point

Really you would need to take advice from an RX owner I think.1 point

If defender doesn't help then download Malwarebytes and run a scan. That is a good tool to detect anything nasty on the machine. If the machine is infected then depending what it is you may not be able to trust the system fully without a complete re-install of Windows so keep a note of what is found.1 point

Yes, all of these Kyosho models are limited runs. Probably 400 black and 400 in blue. Pretty cool getting the last one in black. Here is the current catalogue, LC has a similar run of 400 in each colour: https://saas3.startialab.com/acti_books/1045173943/37846/HTML5/pc.html#/page/18 If it was a blue one for sale then I probably wouldn't have posted the link 😉1 point

I could have bought a silver IS on a 2015 plate from Ford's of Winsford for less than I paid for mine, it's still on their site now if you take a look. The car is literally 8 miles from me but ... It was MOT'd last September, on an Isle of Man number plate, then it arrived at Fords in October with very few miles on the clock since the test. It has sat there for months at the same price. It may be a good car, but Fords only give a 3 month warranty and with it sitting around for so long? I know it'll be bullet proof, but the Isle of Man to Cheshire thing screamed "auction" to me. As you know, once you've dealt with a good Lexus dealer, you don't go anywhere else! Lexus Stoke are deservedly very highly rated, so I paid a bit of a premium for mine, but I sleep soundly at night and I've just had the 12 month warranty extended by 3 months by that nice Mr Lexus. If you're going to buy into a premium brand, and I honestly think Lexus currently occupy the position that Mercedes enjoyed in the 1970's, which is just about the pinnacle of quality, then why scrimp and save on a few quid? By the way, as I've previously stated on here, Crewe where I live is the home of Bentley and previously Rolls Royce. That factory has been bought, sold and horse traded more than the average corner tart. Their quality (Bentley) is about 20% above the car they're based on, the Audi. Mercedes and BMW are run by accountants these days, long gone is the engineer in charge. Take your pick, but if I'm spending a lot of my cash, I know what I'm doing.1 point

Yes, London certainly seems to have the highest number of cases. Some have said catlocs work, others are not so sure. Maybe you could get a dog with big teeth and train it to sleep underneath! Parking in a space that makes getting a jack underneath it is sensible if possible. The thieves will be looking for quick easy access.1 point

There's no way the front screen could be angled to the passenger only so there's no chance of being able to play a DVD on the go or it would be a distraction to the driver. This is why the screens on dashcams have to blank out within a couple of minutes - it's illegal for the driver to be distracted in such a manner. I'm not even sure a DVD can be played on the front screen at all anyway, let alone on the move, but I've never had a 400h so I'll let an owner confirm that or debunk it.1 point

Had Anthracite on my silver Opel Monza GSE many years ago, it being the factory finish. It went quite well although I prefer silver. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so go with what you like rather than what others think. If you might sell the car before long remember that any modification from standard can reduce the value and desirability of it in general.1 point
-
I doubt very much if you will be able to watch it on the front screen, sure it has a safety feature that prevents the driver from watching while on the go.1 point

Would have thought your wheel refurbishing place should have sample wheels so they could show you what it sort of looks like🤔1 point

that sounds as if it's in limp-home mode - are there no warning lights on the dashboard? How long have you owned the car? Have you got a diagnostics code reader - if not I'd recommend you get one, the bluetooth types that link to your moblile phone are less than a tenner, that will give you an indication of what's wrong1 point

Unboxed the model and it is made of metal (the body) and looks and feels expensive and I am glad I have it. Couple things that are a little upsetting apart from none of the doors, bonnet do not open, the wheels do not have suspension and do not even rotate and the windscreen with rear screen is made of very thin plastic, very thin. You easily bend it by placing your finger on it, I would expect it to be a thicker plastic. Anyway, a few more photos of the model everyone! I hope you like it too!1 point

Hi I recently just bought a pre owned lexus rx400 and asked a question in google on how to connect myphone to play music to the sound system. The answer was on this site and when I found out it was Lexus Owners Club forum I signed up straight away and posted this 🙂 I got 2008 model i know its old, but will be getting an upgrade in the future when I can afford the rx450h with pan roof 🙂 Conor1 point

Cheers again Herbie. Been looking online at Poorboys BH Glaze, plus some reviews on it on YouTube. Definitely on the list! Autoglym Complete Scratch Removal Kit I've noticed also. Not sure though. It's a minefield this is! Trial and error I guess!1 point

When researching back last year July for a replacement car, I thought of Lexus due to their past record on reliability. I google searched for owners forums in the UK. Loved the wealth of knowledge that I read, and hence I was hooked on LOC!!!1 point

My son told me about the site. He had heard about it from a friend. He has an RX 350 which I previously owned. I upgraded to an RX 450h and he was very keen to have the 350. Both of us LOVE our Lexus SUVs.1 point

I have altered the exhaust – have a bigger bore pipe from the centre resonator to the boxes and have twin boxes fitted (4 exit tailpipes) so I have improved the flow of gasses exiting the engine, albeit from the centre box. Before I done all this I fitted an oiled K&N panel filter (have done this to all the cars I have had as it does give some benefit in performance) so I have increased slightly the air into the engine also. I have not gone down the full route of converting the intake, just changed the filter to a lifetime one. If I was looking for a bigger power output (which I am not) my next step would be to have it tuned but it can’t be done on these engines anyway but I am not worried about that. The filter is expensive at first compared to replacing a normal one every year but it has been in the car that long now that its paid for itself. No noticeable difference in noise between the K&N| one to stock one. I clean it every year – it states its good for 100k before cleaning – can’t see how they can claim that as they don’t know the environment the car is being driven in. Once a year is no hassle as while the filter is drying out I put the original one back in if I know I am going to be driving it in the meantime. In doing this I can compare the differences between both filters and can say that there is a noticeable difference between them both – the K&N one makes the car more responsive and initial acceleration is better but after a while with the K&N one in you can’t tell the difference until the next time its cleaned and you can do the comparrison. Always wondered if the ECU compensates for the change immediately? I would recommend the filter – but I guess its personal preference really. As for the exhaust – I didn’t set out to make it a twin pipe but I found a set of boxes that fitted perfectly so went with them – what’s been about 6 months with it on – I have only had one issue with it in I noticed a weeping weld which I sorted. Still to put the diffuser on but have started to mod it so it can fit over the twin pipes (It was only for a single pipe exit both sides so have altered it to twin box exit on both sides) Will get it painted and placed on the car next along with a front splitter which will be painted at the same time. I must say how easy it was to do the exhaust and it worked out peanuts cost wise to an OEM or even a stainless one. Still got the stainless one which I need to clean up and may sell. I wont go down the route of stainless again as it seemed to drain a lot of the power from the can and make it uncomfortable to drive due to the drone. I can easily replace this with another mild steel one as I have the pattern for it so it wont take long and the hassle is gone from guessing what the angles are etc ...1 point
