His Royal Highness passed away peacefully yesterday morning at Windsor Castle. I join with people around the Commonwealth and the world in mourning his loss. 2. Picked it up at lunchtime, great service from Lexus Teeside. What a difference from the CT (which I did love by the way), smoother, quieter and more comfortable. Nice steady drive the 40 miles home averaging 50mpg at just under 70 most of the way. Lovely metallic black paintwork. Took a while to figure out the dab radio ensembles for my local stations, but will get used to it.

  3. I really like the cvt. Not to everyones taste, but I have got the fast driving out of my system (61 year old) and just like cruising. I was once a HGV driver trainer with an emphasis on fuel economy so love tring to squeeze out the extra mile.

  4. Totally agree with everything you've said about the Commonwealth Len. Many people do not appreciate the good works Britain has done for the Commonwealth nations (and still do via DIFD) and why King George VI particularly instilled those values of appreciating and welcoming the contributions of people of all nations to the war efforts (WWII) into our present Queen and instructed her to hold the Commonwealth dearly. I for one will not be a citizen of this Great country today contributing my own little quota were it not for a Commonwealth scholarship offered to my dad in 1962 to come and study accountancy at the then Regent Polytechnic London where he met my mum and then they had me in 1965. Long live the Queen.

  5. I’ve always thought of Philip as what we used to call ‘a good egg’. Seeing again the plaudits and affection of those who served with him in the Navy, and worked with him across an extraordinary range of activities, is humbling indeed. And yet I am saddened to see examples of the ‘tall poppy syndrome’ make an appearance. Members of the Umbrage Brigade who seek to find offence where none existed. To witness the genuine grieving expressed by so many members of the Commonwealth who had enjoyed his visits, puts the lie to hints of racist gaffes. He was a man of his times who overcame a troubled childhood to achieve in life what few can even aspire to. There may be someone who can step into his shoes, but no-one comes to mind.

  6. I was just thinking, looking back at all the cars I have owned in just over 40 years of driving (passed test 2 months after 17th birthday) and this is the first time I have changed car and kept the same make and model, going from the 2011 RX450h to this 2017 RX450h. The only other time that has been close was after owning my first 4x4 back in 2004 (Suzuki Grand Vitara XL 7 seater) that i used for towing a caravan, I changed it for a smaller Suzuki GV1600 3 door. When I changed to the 2017 RX back at the end of last August I actually only had one make and model in mind, just shows how much it had impressed me in the three years I had owned the 2011 RX.

  8. You get used to it quickly! The Toyota power-split device, which makes its hybrid systems much better integrated than some other manufacturers' hybrids, is designed to allow the ICE engine to run at whatever if the most efficient speed for the requirement being placed on the system. Over twenty years after the Prius launched, motoring journalists still seem congenitally incapable of understanding drivetrains where the traditional linear relationship between road speed doesn't apply. On the upside, for the 95% of time you're not calling for maximum acceleration, the drivetrain is much quieter than in a non-hybrid, especially around town. Hope you enjoy your NX - it's a great package.

  10. Best laid plans...and all that, Andy. I thought that too about my previous car - a Honda Accord bought new six years earlier. And then an Iveco truck wrote it off on the M25 and I discovered it was no longer on sale in the UK. Still, on the plus side I then discovered Lexus. So not all bad.

  11. I am going to run my 2005 RX400H into its grave. So I’ll be having only one until the postcode lottery comes in. The new RX450H is the dream of course. I used to have a e39 540i. Lovely motor. Rust got at it. Had to go. And the RX400H is only a second slower to 60mph.

  12. The trick - if it is a trick - is to accelerate much more gradually and smoothly. Try to anticipate more so you don’t need to ‘floor’ the throttle. It’s an entirely different way of driving to a diesel. Motoring journalists miss the point - perhaps deliberately so - by accelerating hard and then complaining about the way the engine and gearbox work (and how they were designed to work).

  13. I wonder if anyone spotted these two sections in the user guide. I reckon that if the road opens up and swallows my car I won't need the tilt sensor to inform me. Also, why would anyone ever take a nap in an LC500?! 🤣 Although, it could be that Lexus know their target demographic very well. 👨‍🦳

  17. HI this is a known fault - if the seal is in good condition then just remove the seal - clean and dry boot edge and then refit the seal. Resealing with silicone is recommended. Or you could buy a new seal - there are some on ebay - and just replace it hope this helps

  20. My guess would be that having invested time, effort and no doubt some skill, into your refurbs, you’ve ended up with a greater sense of involvement and satisfaction with the end product then if you’d just taken delivery new. Also if you go back far enough, you can do most work with not much more than, say, a good socket set, screwdrivers, spanners, a couple of Mole grips, ramps and, if you’re really fussy, a torque wrench. I lift a modern car bonnet and it takes me a moment to just locate the dipstick! It would be interesting to know how many LOC members are refurbers and buy-newers. In my case, a two-year old IS250 suited me perfectly- and was no longer available new anyway. Obviously how much you’re prepared to spend on a car is a factor. Anyone buying new, even after negotiations, knows that a ‘trouble free time’ is at the expense of a loss the moment you drive off the forecourt. I regularly get invites from the Lexus dealer, (today, for example), presumably to sell the IS250 back to them so that I can replace it with something new. Problem is, there isn’t a new model that would suit me better. Sounds like a good project! Despite my encounter I hold no grudge towards Iveco. In fact what does irritate is that two days earlier I’d had new Michelin CrossClimates fitted.

  21. Hello Banji, I have been reading some of your previous posts, and this one made me smile…! I remember my wife's comment to my son when I bought a brand new Lexus NX and had gone to Derby to pick it up. Upon arrival at home she called my son and said "come and look your daddy has bought a new Qashqai" after that I didn't talk to her for one day. Just spent over £42k on a car only for the other half to call it a Qashqai ! The LC 500 Convertible is definitely a great, unique car…! I have lost count how many ‘nice’ cars that I have owned. But thinking back, the Convertible is better than my McLaren 540C, my new NSX, my Taycan 4S, my MB’s and my 911’s… It’s a great ride, in all of the driving modes… It’s engine and 10 speed auto/manual box is brilliant… and it definitely turns heads, when I am out and about… It was 5C, when I was out in it a few days ago. I had the roof down and the Concierge System worked so good, the roof stayed down...! Regards Kevin

  26. Hi All, I seem to be an outlier here but I have always found the voice commands to work pretty well for both phone dialling and playing music of a usb stick. (Good experiences now on 2013 CT, 2015 NX, 2021 RX). Never tried it for navigation... However, on my new RX, I was having some serious issues a week or so ago. Turned out that a corrupt usb disk full of mp3s (which would actually play ok in the car and was seen fine on my PC) was somehow stopping the voice commands from working (not sure how these things are related.... other than through the infotainment system) A low level format of the stick and I reloaded the mp3s and the voice commands work properly again. James - if you have a usb stick of music in use, you might want to try again with the stick removed? Paul

  29. I reckon a facelift car with 18” wheels is better than a pre-facelift car on 17” wheels, assuming both are standard suspension. I hated my own 2014 IS250 F-sport with a vengeance. It felt like it had no suspension travel at all and was far too firm to the point where it was uncomfortable. A dream on motorways and dual carriageways but poor everywhere else. My 2019 IS300H Sport had better ride comfort than my 2104 IS300H Executive and also an IS200T Sport I had for six months. Whatever suspension changes they made in the facelift cars seemed to improve the ride comfort, at least to my backside and ears anyway.

  30. After this post it was removed from marketplace and has found it's way onto ebay, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-rx400h-sel/324562494755?hash=item4b916ea523%3Ag%3A924AAOSw9ypgcACB&LH_All=1 At least here it's a bit more honest, with a strange DIY section replacing the CAT having been revelated, which is consistent with the poor job on the rear passenger light repair (paint), and A LOT more pictures of more damage the vehicle has.

  40. The beauty of the eCVT system is it allows the engine to operate at its most efficient rpm at any particular moment. So when you want to accelerate the engine rpm is almost instantly increased to obtain maximum power, which for your engine is around 5,5000 rpm. It doesn't have to slowly build up to that speed, or go beyond it and fall back down multiple times as you would with a normal transmission. The downside of the high and constant engine speed is the noise associated, the 'drone' as many motoring journalists refer to it as.

  44. If I wasn't so stupid, and always wanted the biggest car I could get, the IS250 would be the car I'd buy, I constantly read great comments about them. I'm sure you won't be disappointed if you find a good one. Also, if you're looking to get say a 2007 model or there abouts, it's still a great looking car in 2021.

  45. Astra Zeneca one a week last Friday......absolutely no after affects on me and my wife.... Roll on the next jab. Then I can actually start looking at RXs.... On a similar vein..... Our neighbour got stuck in Austria for 3 months during lockdown. Went to GP in Austria whilst she was out there and he advised her not to get the vaccine as he said many people were being paralyzed due to the vaccine....sorry about the language......but what the actual f....... She was then paranoid that she would be paralyzed (actually really panicking)......and then she traveled from Austria, to Amsterdam, to Manchester to Aberdeen to get back home and was panicking about getting the vaccine!! The risk off getting Covid in her journey home was about a million times higher than getting ANY adverse reaction to the vaccine. Just goes to show that many, many people believe all the negative, and false, information that is being spouted on various social media and news reports. That could cause major problems a few months down the road.

  46. I've never had an interest in Supra's but when I looked at the picture (without reading the comments), the first thing that came to my mind is BMW Z4 lol!
    1 point
  47. It meant to be really beautiful, but to adapt it to Z4 they have shrunk it to this silly looking chubby and over-aggressively styled car. I don't think it looks horrible, but nice it certainly isn't. As well inside it is carbon copy of BMW... it would not be a bad thing but it is copy of last generation BMW, whereas Z4 actually get's latest infotainment. Not sure what you mean by it being big? It is certainly smaller that A80 or it's own concept car. New Supra is about the size of Porsche 718 - that it small sports car and not GT car like old Supra. I think they should have based it on LC platform and then hardpoints would have been closer to original concept making it actually stunning looking car. Looking at below images and comparing to what we got it is like comparing real Ferrari and MR2 based Ferrari Replica - sort of looks similar, but proportions are all wrong.

  49. The cat from my RX400h was stolen in October last year. Insurance company stumped up for new cat + lock after much haggling and convincing them that Lexus supply & fit new cat for £750. First catloc was rubbish, it enclosed the exhaust pipe and was attached to the chassis with a chain that rattled continuously. Due to COVID nothing happened but in the middle of August Lexus fitted for free version 2 which is a steel cage bolted to the chassis with snap off bolts. Nothing is 100% but this will deter most of the crims. BTW Lexus Customer Relations were amazing throughout, and this with a 12 year old car. BTW2 my RX400h is the best car by far in over 50 years of driving and owning about 30 cars. Just did a 2k round trip to France and averaged 40+ mpg not driving particularly slowly.
