  1. I had a wiper failure on an RX450h and feared lots of hassle. Turned out to be the nut which secures the arm assembly to the drive motor, it had worked loose. Readily accessible with the bonnet up on a 450, can't comment on a 400 but worth a check.

  2. I have found this to be an effective alarm. Very user friendly, not affected by power cuts or weather, doesn't need setting and resets automatically.😁

  3. My RX currently has Dunlop’s. They’re OK, if rather noisy, in the dry but less happy when moist. As soon as they’re sufficiently worn I’m planning to have CrossClimates.

  6. An update after a couple of days hard work. The Meister R suspension is now on as is the uprated front roll bar with poly bushes. Lost an upper front arm ball joint nut in the process (garage gremlins) so need to find a replacement before I can drive it. I fitted 20MM wheel spacers at the front. Might need some more ride height adjustment but its looking good so far. The rear roll bar is hopefully on the way from Japan which will complete the suspension mods. I have also been told that the GS strut brace will not fit so when I get time I'll design one and have it made up locally. Wheels need balancing and tracking etc. Tested blacking out the orange side reflectors (with plasticote) and prefer it that way so I'll do it properly sometime. Once its mechanically as I want it I'll start on the cosmetics/paint/sound and so on.

  8. Got the GSF at 26, plan on keeping it long term/ for it's life time, originally wanted an ISF but by the time I could afford an F car, the GSF was out and it was personally the perfect car 😄

  9. They could not "insist" on fitting a pair of shocks as the MOT only failed the car on one. Obviously the other shock on the other side passed the test. I would say it is advisable to change them as a pair to give even stability on both sides of the vehicle. It comes under the same category as fitting one new tyre on an axle where the other tyre may only have 2mm of tread left as this would still be perfectly legal, and still pass an MOT. John.

  10. I think the Gateway ECU may be faulty but I don't think you can just swap it out with a known good one to confirm that without it being coded to the car first.

  11. I use a Stoplock Pro https://www.amazon.co.uk/Stoplock-Pro-Elite-Steering-Anti-Theft/dp/B003S51WII Not sure about a disclock. More difficult to store when not in use i would suspect. But more secure.

  14. I have a GS450H, but it's a 2007 however that has the auto dimming door mirrors. I would think they all came with these OEM, but there are many replacements for sale that use plane glass mirrors. John.

  16. 36 when I picked up mine. I've had fast cars since my early twenties. Looking back on the amount of money I have wasted I would probably advise my younger self against it if I could, and tell him to get on the property ladder earlier. Not that he would listen!

  20. I have a space saver wheel from a prius, have used it once in anger.I secured it with an original hand turned threaded bolt which i found on a scrapped Toyota celica, the thread was identical. As for the storage box i removed it entirely and find you can store items around the spare.

  21. I had a 6-cylinder 4-series and can confirm that indicators were fitted as standard. I suspect it’s the 318d (which as we all know goes really fast) Which lacks such niceties....

  23. These are two official replies from Lexus Customer Relations Re: Apple Car Play and Android Auto after I asked what they are planning for ES owners without ACP and AA and are there any cost implications for ES owners. 1. Initial Question: Are we getting ACP and AA as a retro fit? Answer: I completely understand how this is what we would consider a hot-topic amongst our Lexus customer's and has been in the collective mindshare for sometime now. I am happy to inform you that a retrofit program is in place, and at this point in time all I can share is that we have a projected date for May 2020 - the important thing is that you're vehicle is eligible for this and closer to the time more information will be made available. I hope this sheds some light on this topic, and thank you for contacting Lexus. 2. Second question: Will it be a free upgrade? Answer: I wish I could clarify that for you, but there's still more to be determined and finalised before May and pricing is one of them I'm afraid. This will be known closer to the time and I'm sorry to tell you that we must wait until then. So has anyone who might have a booking for an upgrade been told it will be free??

  24. Back when I was 24, driving around in 1.3 Escort Mk3, if I had anything like a hot hatch back then, I would be in the wooden box a long time ago. I remember getting my first Cavalier srI, and getting it up to 130mph (just), and nearly smashing into the back of tractors coming round country bends too quick. Made me realise that even at 30 years old I was too mad for a sportier car and went with Mr Sensible motors until I tried my first LS Not been in any of the sporty Lexus range, too used to the LS luxury (and sometimes push the barge up to 120 - when wife not with me).

  25. Thank you all for the input. I went with Avons. The Primacy 4 sound good on a saloon car but I can't find any word on their use with an SUV and get the feeling they were not really designed with them in mind. The Crossclimates fit the bill and get thumbs up here, but seem in a similar ball park to the Avons which also get the thumbs up here. So I choose to go with what I already have on the front which do feel sure footed.

  28. P0125 code is insufficient engine temperature detected to switch to closed loop mode. The ecu has exceeded the wait period for the engine to get warm enough to go closed loop. So you're effectively running in cold engine mode. Like running with the choke on all the time. Fix that issue first so the engine management goes into closed loop mode and uses the oxygen sensors to check the mixture. You can't look at the lean running issue until the engine management goes into closed loop mode. Insufficient engine temp could be a bad or disconnected coolant temperature sensor. Or there could be no coolant getting to the sensor to warm it up. A simple OBD2 reader will give a live reading of engine temp. A broken sensor may read low, or get to a certain temp and stop increasing. You'd have to check to see which it is.

  32. I also had Avon zx7 they have a good grip on wet or dry but because they ate softer they got worn after ~25k miles

  33. I had the Avon ZX7s all round on my RX300 and they were superb in all conditions. I've never had Michelin Primacy on any car so can't compare but they would have to be very exceptional for me to choose them over the ZX7s.

  35. I have owned IS220d, IS250 and now on RX300(2006). All driven to at least 130K miles and bought it 70k, 105k, 105k. IS22d had good fuel economy but the dodgy EGR/DPF setup meant 1, I had to clean the EGR every 10k miles 2, I hated to leave cyclists in a mist of while un-burnt diesel smoke from time to time and hated to look back in the rear view mirror of all the environment damage it was causing. I believe the problem was fix in the IS200d Moved over to the IS250, loved it a lot, however as bullet proof as they are they are not unbreakable , especially if you buy one with a dodgy service history. I ended up with a seized engine and had to get that fixed and sold it on. But when it was working it was really good. Bad on fuel economy and did not have the kick of the 220d turbo but was still better somehow. I moved over to owning a tiny little auto Honda Jazz for a bit due to financial troubles. Great fuel economy and space for a little car but zero gadgets and comfort. Also had a sightly slipping CVT auto which is known fault. Wanted to get back into Lexus fold so got rid of the Jazz (which was bought by an exporter who exported it to Cyprus, seems like its a big thing there) and bought the RX. Main thing about RX300 which I have had for a couple of years now is that it is super comfy, cheap to buy and insure and had huge boot space for those ikea trips and trips to the airport. Its quite heavy on fuel (17 - 23mpg), tyres and brakes. If you do a lot of mile then I would not recommend it but if you do say 3 to 5K miles a year like I have stared doing now a days then I would say its over all great because its cheap to buy and run at that level of miles. I bought mine for 4K and got the cam belt done by Lexus Leeds for another £500. So cost me about 4.5K two years ago at 104K miles now its at 135k miles, but since I am traveling a lot I am not driving it much anymore. I am also looking for another car now as wife has gone and bought a Q3 and I cannot justify two SUVs at home anymore. Thinking of getting back to saloon/sedan shape. So , currently thinking about a change over towards middle of 2020 for either the LS600h or the GS450h or even the GS250 (Same as the IS250 engine but all else is new and new predator grill). I also travel a lot in taxis and it might be just me but I like the CT200h comfort over the Prius-es that I have been in.

  36. Following a number of recommendations from fellow members, I have replaced all four of my tyres with a set of Michelin Cross Climate's. I have to say that I am really very pleased that I did. I have had them for just over one month now and the difference over what was on the car previously is quite amazing. A big thank you to all who provided input. Happy New Year to everyone.

  39. I'm very happy with my 2006 Harrier. They're fairly rare I guess so might be hard to find, but it's been very reliable, very little gadgets to break and better fuel economy than a regular RX-300. I paid 6k for mine but it was low mileage.

  40. Also if you're considering getting a hybrid looking to getting some catalytic converter security lock. It's happening a lot now and I advise you invest.. I am also a victim of the crime on the RX400h.

  41. Just in case it interests anyone, fitted EBC Red stuff pads to my fronts. Currently in the ‘bedding in’ phase. Very easy to swap out I have to admit. Also got to clean the callipers thoroughly! So far I would say they feel the same as OE (not necessarily a bad thing). Will see how they feel after the bed in and under harsher braking! 200 miles of ‘urban driving’ here I come... 😂

  42. Hi Greg and welcome to the LOC, we are a friendly bunch and some of us even know how to pull them to bits and put them back together again, with of course the one bolt and washer left over. I cant help with your present queries but I'm sure someone will be along ASAP. We recommend you spend a couple of mins looking over the rules of the LOC, we will be asking questions later http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/terms-conditions/ Regards Mike.

  43. my front right wheel bearing is on its way out, there appears to be some confusion over what actually fits, anyone on here had to replace theirs?
    0 points
  44. This. Massive amount of force in an unsecured wheel. Will easily seriously injure or kill occupants. There are usually plenty of anchorage points in the boot. Find a way of ratchet strapping it in place, or covering it in some kind of cargo net (not elastic type). Assuming there is no bolt hole for retention the the traditional way.
