  1. I've found that my concerns over owning an LS430 are pointless. I've spent too much time thinking about what "may" go wrong. I would just have it serviced and get all the bushes and joints checked and go from there. My last one was a 2001 on 118k with no joint or bush problems.

  2. I totally agree, been in exactly the same situation, thinking about what might need doing, to find all ok. Take Phil’s advice and just enjoy. Mine is now on 97500, mot coming up in June, I will just take it all as it comes, and if a problem, hello Paul Frost. Happy motoring 😜

  3. Thank you for that, very interesting. My inquisitive mind is saying "why would the AFS affect left/right glare" and I know that the dip left is quite pronounced on these cars. However, I will print out that snippet in French in case of "Les flics" Cheers

  4. So the car is booked for a cambelt service next week. Initially I was going to avoid sending it to Lexus because I’d heard horror stories about high costs, but I came across a forum post where somebody said Lexus of Bolton were pretty competitive on pricing. With them not being too far I gave them a call to enquire. They’ve quoted £520 for a new cambelt and water pump and they’ll even lend me a car while the work is being done. Can’t argue with that!

  5. After my RX failed the MOT on the strut top bearings, my local garage spoke to lexus and they do not sell just this part you have to buy the whole new strut !!!!! £750 each !! So after spending some time on Google I found an advert on eBay and eventually spoke to this guy who was able to replace just the bearings for me at a reasonable £60 each The business name is orchard engineering and the contact number is 07901712988 Just thought I'd pass on the good news to other RX owners 🙂

  6. My 2016 RX450h Premier, has covered 15k on factory fitted Dunlop but now worn off. Is it too soon for the tyres to go like that? Lexus dealership suggested that multiple factors , but no fault in car Now I am looking for all season tyres 235/55/20 if anyone has suggestions where to get them from etc? Thanks

  8. Hello all! Had my GSF for just over a year, only really now getting involved with the whole 'club' aspect of car ownership as I never had the time before! Found a few other random GSF owners on instagram and was directed here! Daily driven for the past year, couple of worthy road trips and about 16k miles later, all I can say is I 'F'-ing love my GS. For anyone heading to Simply Japanese at Beaulieu Motor Museum, hope to catch you there! Kieran

  10. Well, you've just described my new car, arriving end of June (hopefully!) Azure Blue F-Sport with red leather and Takumi pack. Will also be getting it ceramic coated (again, current car is coated, works well), apparently Lexus have broken from Williams and now have their own branded product. It's a long wait ....

  11. Hi All, Another new member here, been looking for a GS450h for a few months and finally found one with the right spec and millage in Bury a few weeks back, took me four hours and just as many trains to get up there but it was well worth it! Just under 50k on the clock and a full Lexus service history, I'm really happy with it love how it's so quiet but when you floor it you'll easily surprise most people from the lights. 🙂 I was a little disappointed to find I had no Aux in on the ML system, and to be fair I can't really notice any difference in quality or volume from the standard system in my E Class Merc but maybe I'm just not an audiophile, also does anyone else have an issue with the windows going fully up or down but not stopping anywhere in between? Thinking it might just be dodgy switches as this car hasn't seen many miles but maybe someones seen this before. Cheers Dan

  13. Hi Jason, It's part of the UK so there shouldn't be any red tape hassle unless you are skipping across the border into the south. Which is well worth the trip, it's quite a varied island! Just touching on what Malcolm says yes there's a few rough areas (same as anywhere) but it's gotten a lot less prickly in previous years. Best advice is to keep politics, football and religious opinions to yourself unless you know who you are talking to. Try to avoid the July 'celebrations' too, it can get rowdy! Thanks to online car buying and the potential savings on the mainland there's a serious amount of UK registrations here nowadays which should help you blend in. Plenty of tourist spots in the north and the scenery can be epic on the right day.

  16. I suppose because it swings to the left on left-hand bends. Maybe just having the beams 'straight' makes the difference between needing adjustments or not - just a guess.

  17. Piers is right: Our 58 plate RX400h had beige/cream leather. Paperwork referred to it as Oakham. It's got to be the one because at the time, leather was limited to three colours: beige/cream (Oakham), pale grey and black.

  18. You don't need to do anything if the headlamps are Xenon (do a little 'dance' when you switch them on). There's a letter from Toyota/Lexus knocking around on these forums somewhere where someone has contacted them to ask the same question. Aha, found it - post No.3 in the following topic:

  20. I have run and enjoyed many cars with eye-watering maintenance bills and have just accepted the fact that if you buy a car that was £100-150K new then you still have to accept the sort of bills a car of that type will throw up. In fact the next big service on the twin turbo V12 CL 65 AMG I had before the RCF was going to be near the £3K mark. Apart from the fact I wanted a N/A V8 the RCF turned out be be as cheap as chips to service properly, I was quite amazed at the servicing costs and the cost of a proper Lexus warranty too. Before buying the RCF I did try a special order M3 (in wanting a N/A V8), it had every factory option you could put on it plus it had a factory tested and checked engine and had a certificate to prove it. I really liked it but got the feeling 20 minutes into the test drive that you had to drive it fast all the time. I later discovered some of the potential engine issues so glad in some ways I tried the RCF after the M3, still think they are great cars but I guess you pay your money and take your choice/chance.

  21. This reminds me of that classic thread where we discovered that the parts on an IS-F and an IS220d were about 98.17% interchangeable.

  22. I believe all the Toyota/Lexus hybrids have the hidden menu. There is an alternative method of entering the menu by going to the settings screen in accessory mode as previous post. In this screen there are two gold horizontal bands one near the top the other near the bottom. Pressing imaginary buttons on the left hand side of the screen just under the top gold band, and just above the bottom gold band starting at the top alternatively three times each. This should bring up the hidden menu. John.

  25. It’s the worry free ownership people overlook and it is massively under rated element of toy car ownership. A friend is selling his Maserati due to fear of it breaking. My lotus had some issues but none massively expensive but I was always wondering what the next niggle might be. My isf was perfect and that’s why I’ll be getting an rcf. Drive it across continents and not worry, hammer it on B roads and track and not worry etc

  26. As mentioned above, I'm also glad I went down the F route. I looked at the usual contenders, C63, M3 etc, and looking at the owners forums, just couldn't face the worry of frequent expensive bills. Had mine 11 months and 4000 miles and have spent nothing on it. And sleep at night, knowing that with the warranty, I should be covered. Since the Aston Martin Vantage came out, I always lusted after them, and one was also on my list. Again though, they seem to have regular battery, clutch and body work problems. I looked at some at a place called Mcgurks, and was very tempted to call in again after the recent F meet at the airfield café. Then I thought, do I really want the prospect of potentially having to budget £2-3000 per year to keep one going. A good unworried blast home opening that second intake cured me. For a while.....Or will an RCF be next??

  29. Not sure why you'd think that Andy. As long as you know and trust the mechanic/garage then go with them. Cam belts are bread and butter work to any mechanic worth his salt and probably done in their hundreds up and down the country every day. It may be a Lexus LS430 but it's still 'a car' and there's nothing 'Lexus-specific' about a job like that. That transmission cooler that you linked to is being sold by Paul Frost, who is well known on here and also the sister owners club group on Facebook. I've never had personal dealings with him but he has an excellent reputation and is apparently very helpful. I know he breaks Lexus and sells both these and new parts too, but I'm not sure if he actually works on the cars as such - if he does, he may even do your cambelt for you. Just look at the bottom of that eBay listing for his contact details and have a word because he wouldn't be too far away for you.

  31. Not sure what was the price, but it should have been very low for this to be attractive offer when straight cars of similar age spec sells for under £2000. The damage it self was minimal - I am not sure where you see suspension damage, even wheel arch was not touched, so how the suspension got damaged?! I would be more worried about B pillar, but it seems like it was scraped against something rather than heavily hit, that said 2 doors to bolt on and car is fixed. Could be few little slightly trickier bits, like pulled out screw holes etc, but that is fairly simple hammer + welder job. It is kind of stupid this car was Cat-S, If that would have been my car I would have appealed insurance decision, because S stands for "structural damage" - there are no structural damage on this car. Insurance companies should stop pretending they understand about the cars, or simply give categories based on the price vs. repair value. Fair enough - car could be uneconomical repair due to its market price being low, but that doesn't make it cat-S. Non-structural damage like this should be cat-N.

  32. I have had the Michelin Cross Climate fitted for about a year, and I was amazed at the way they cut the road noise. So much so, I have had a set fitted to my wife's Yaris with the same effect. Highly recommend!

  33. I reckon my 2006 Harrier should do pretty well. Very few toys to break, smaller engine that's practically bulletproof, no air suspension. I'm still paying off the credit card debt from owning a BMW E39 with a big V8 in it. Sticking with Toyota forever now!

  37. NI or Northern Ireland is a part of the UK and should be exactly the same as in England If you have the usual UK plates then you might find some unfriendliness and stress there too ..... I did for sure last year when I was there 😢 Take great care if you're driving in Derry, there are parts that even Heneiken wouldn't wish to try to reach ....... tremendous anti British feeling in parts .. take great care Now, if you travel to the beautiful and stress free south ( Republic of Ireland / Eire ) then you might need some " foreign " stuff as if you're driving on the continent. But the stress free driving is amazingly BRILLIANT, scenery is fantastic and the delicious Guinness is like nothing on earth ( certainly nothing like UK Guinness for sure ) Malc

  38. They are a 100% quieter than the previous OE Dunlops. The ride is much softer and both wet and dry grip much improved especially at low temperatures. Fantastic in snow too.

  39. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I've just ordered some servicing parts from Lexus Parts Direct as I'd like to get that sorted over the bank holiday. I'll certainly look at RockAuto for other parts in the future. Wouldn't have thought shipping from the US would have been cheaper but the prices look good. I'd like to replace the radiator at some point so I'll compare prices there.

  40. I have read quite a few reports (mainly Honest John] stating how Michelin Cross climates improve ride comfort and noise levels, but none for an RX. Have you experienced notably improvements with these tyres? My 450h is shod with Bridgestones and I find road noise to be unacceptable, compared with previous Lexus' I have had.so, whilst the Bridgestones are not exactly at the end of their useful lives, I am tempted to change them. I would be grateful for your response.

  41. I started this topic years ago, and the car was genuinely a curse for the last two years I owned it. I swore at that point to never get another car with a DPF. The next car I got was a 2008 Merc EClass, purely based on the fact they were the last model with no dpf. Then, when I changed that, got a lexus IS300H (petrol hybrid) But what I can't understand, in the years that have passed since, is why the hell ANYONE is buing diesel cars. They don't work for 90% of people, they pollute, they don't cost any less to run. But the whole country STILL seems to be in love with diesel. Why???

  42. Hi chaps, new to this site. I walked into my local dealer in Hatfield last week, and they had a new unregistered F sport in white with the Takumi Pack just sitting there in the showroom. They were happy for me to buy it so I’m picking it up next week after the Easter hols 😁 It replaces a white IS300H F sport which I have had for 4 years.

  44. The CT follows the Prius in the way that park is engaged. When you are in ready mode selecting D,R,B,and N engages that function as with normal auto transmissions except that the selector is purely electrically operated. The parking is lock pawl driven by an electric motor in the transmission, and not moved by mechanical means from the selector. When you stop you can select park in the normal way, but this is a waste of time, and energy as turning off the engine with the start stop button engages park automatically making it fool proof when parking "park always being engaged", and unless on a steep hill I did not bother with the parking brake "bad practice I know". When I first changed from a Prius to the GS450H on a few occasions this caught me out as I would leave the car in drive, press the stop button, "as with the Prius" and start exiting the car to find the car rolling either forwards or backwards depending on where the car was parked. I was so used to not having to engage park. John.

  46. So the car went in 5th March for inspection and still Lexus haven’t made a decision on whether to repair or not. That’s now close to 6 weeks and in reality what I would consider poor customer service, I spent 15 years working in the trade on lesser brands and they were able to make decisions in hours normally or days if it was a little complicated. My expectations of Lexus now are low, if/when they reject the claim I will get the leg repaired to a good standard and then sell the car, as far as I’m concerned Lexus have lost me not only a a customer but as an advocate of their products Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
