  1. Thanks for all of the replies. I have decided to buy out the finance and keep the car for another coupe of years and then see what is on offer then.

  3. Could be wrong but I don't think dealers remove the pins and regrease. If they're seized they replace the whole caliper. Or that's what I recall from a conversation with Lexus Sheffield re: my RX.

  4. The car is back with me, it was only one sensor that need replacement. I didn't have a chance to check the work they have done on the wheels neither to check which sensor they have changed as it was dark and raining, hopefully this morning will be dryer so i can go outside and have a look and take a photo. I also wish to give a car a proper wash but the weather disagreeing with me, it is cold, frosty over nights and roads treated so the car will get dirty pretty quickly if I go even for a short drive. It is clean inside though, i usually clean inside once a week. Beautiful! Nice photo!

  6. spoke to him today, he certainly knows his stuff. He's confirmed the battery is dying and replacing a few cells will get me out of trouble short term but in the long term its a new battery that's required. He can supply and fit a new battery for the same money as Toyota can supply but the cells are supposedly able to hold 15% more energy and they last longer, as a result ev performance and overall mpg will be better than previous. The battery will be replaced soon and Im pretty sure im going to go down the new route. I plan on keeping the car for another year, by which time it will have about 230,000 miles on the clock when I come to sell it. I'm just hoping that a receipt and a new battery will help me to sell the car......and all the other receipts that I have for the car as well.

  10. About the question, no the is200 is an indirect injection, it injects the fuel on top of both intake valves. I did a very basic video showing the process and explaining all the steps to take and recommendations to get the best result, is being uploaded as we speak so ill post it here in a couple of minutes once it's ready.

  11. Straight forward insurance claim through Admiral I'd say. As Steve says, GAP/Asset covers you for something 10x worse (ie a write off) but the others aren't relevant.

  12. Hello Sunil, welcome to the LOC and sorry to see the damage to your new NX. The main damage appears to be to the plastics around the rear arch, these would hopefully have absorbed most of the impact so damage beyond this to the metal structure should be minimal if any. The plastics are generally clip on or screwed. The door should knock out with a decent body shop and paint job. If you go via your insurers it shouldn’t be a write off but if that is the case you have the gap insurance, your NCB will of course suffer plus your premiums due to a claim.

  16. The LC500h and the LS500h in the UK use Lithium-Ion traction batteries. The ES worldwide was using a NiMH one but Japan started using Li-ion sometime last year and the MY21 models built in the US also now do, but it seems not the European ones which is a shame as the boot space is bigger and it does slightly improve mpg. I suspect all the red tape of getting the new model type approved for Europe wasn't worth it, and the price increase might has nudged it over tax thresholds.

  18. I Have 40 years background in the construction industry and a good part of it was in the scaffolding industry started as a labourer and worked my way up to a contracts manager for one of the then big six nationals there were no one man bands working from the back of a wagon in the sixties when I started and the big six monopolised the industry and everyone who worked for them was cards in. I had just been promoted to a supervisor coming off the tools as the HSE came into being and most of the staff in the HSE were academics with no practical experience and were using a bible they had concocted with regards to our industry from the codes of practice parts 1/2and 3 formulated by the NASC national association of scaffolding contractors 3 being the section that covered suspended working platforms such as cradles and the type of platform used under bridges . This was one part of the industry that I had worked in at places like Windscale and Seaton Carew power station up in Hartlepool as well as other massive building projects. Whilst I was up at Windscale( we would go for two days every couple of weeks) working on an extention to the ponds that were used for holding the flasks of used plutonium I had cause to see in the roof whilst erecting cradles pigeons with severe moulting issues. Bearing in mind this was 1970 and the only checks for radiation was a badge we handed in to be scanned at the end of a shift to gauge how much radiation we had been exposed too. I told my supervisor I was not going there again and was promptly taken off that team which was a elite high earning position .Two years ago those ponds are now classed as the highest level of radiation in the world and they are still trying to figure out a way of safely decommissioning them they have a 300 metre safety zone around them. I was in my early twenties then and having spent the previous two years working at heights of up to 300 feet without harness and the rest of the safety gear they have to use today grew a sixth sense of what was dangerous. Now the point of this ramble is I believe that since the introduction of the Health and safety at work act the initiative for a person to think for themselves as been eroded to the point that they cannot and expect some one else to think for them. I said earlier that when I became a supervisor it was about the time that the safety officers were visiting our branches and spieling about how they were going to clean up the scaffolding industry and when they had finished my Manager who had erected the scaffolding for the construction of the dish on the Jodrell bank telescope( a worlds first) remarked Well it is a good job you guys were not around when Adam was a lad, to which they retorted why?" Because we would still be living in caves",said my manager.

  19. This taking advantage of existing customers is not limited to Insurance. We have the Radio Times delivered through their Subscriptions people each month and have just received a letter saying the price will be going up to £91 for 6 months of issues. This was quite an increase, so I checked on Internet and found W H Smith cheaper. I rang Radio Times Subscriptions on this and they immediately dropped the price to £65 which I accepted. (It was a little less than W H Smith even). Seems you need to haggle these days. Now must look at that subscription to SKY.............

  20. 50mph for me. As soon as I exceed 50 the petrol engine switches on. As others have said, the slightest increase of pressure on the accelerator at speeds between about 30 and 50 will do the same. Have to treat the accelerator like it has eggs underneath it!

  21. Thanks. Had a little jiggle of the jump leads and all’s well now. Guess was just a dodgy connection. Was in a bit of a rush as it’s snowing quite heavily!

  22. Silly question but what are you jump starting it with? have you got a good enough connection, if you have no joy why not take the battery out and charge it overnight(assuming you have a charger)

  23. This is unfortunately one of the pitfalls of buying from abroad, the packaging gets thrown around so many times. My order from Rock which arrived last week had a couple of spark plugs completely out of their boxes, thankfully not damaged.

  27. I posted something under the How To heading about removing the centre console. Basically it just clips in. Carefully lever the wooden trim up at the rear first, although removal is easier if the gear selector is in drive or neutral.

  30. Just finished another call with my dealer regarding CarPlay. They recommended to call/send e-mail/letter directly to the importer (Toyota (GB) PLC in UK). The dealers themselves have very little power to put pressure on Toyota/Lexus Europe (Toyota Motor Europe) to get the ball rolling regarding the development. I have sent an e-mail to Toyota Baltic (importer in my region) regarding that. If we put enough pressure on the importers, then they might make it more of a priority. I encourage everyone that wish to have it on their LC/LS to send a polite reminder that the retrofit is highly anticipated - the number of requests matters! People outside of the UK should contact your local importer (your local dealer can provide the required contacts).

I agree with observing the rules of the forum, but when I got a number of bell notifications about a reply I had made to the post, and wished to see on clicking the bell I was informed "I did not have permission to view this content". No explanation on why that made me wonder. I had done something wrong? John.

  33. Hi. I had a similar problem with my SC which had been unused for a while before I bought it last summer. A liberal dosing of WD 40 between mirror and its bracket did the trick. Good luck - and enjoy

  36. Hello folks Been many years since I checked in on the Lexus Club, and very happy to see a few Aristos lurking! I was enjoying looking through this post when I found a pic of my Aristo - Black with the 19" Advan Sienna II's. Well, its still alive I'm happy to say, although currently undergoing some significant repair work. I'm hoping to have it back on the road in the summer... Now I know there is still some limited Aristo related activity here I'll check in more often! Take care all Tony

  39. ^^ Agree about the interior, it’s superb! I think they were - as usual for the motoring press - making their point about the infotainment but conflating that with the interior in general. Journalistic standards these days aren’t what they were!

  40. Will be giving this a go, sounds like a real time saver, as I prefer to have MP3 physically on phone to play in car, but at home on PC just stream spotify. I have been using Audacity to record and then edit for last 12 years, works well, but time consuming, given I have about 4000 tracks stored from Spotify. By the way anyone wanting a DRM for BBC iPlayer, should look at Get iPlayer (on Github). Means I watch the programs I pay my licence fee for, when I want, not within 28 days. Get Iplayer (Installation)

  42. Without a crystal ball? I doubt it Seriously though, it could be any one of a hundred things. You need to do some methodical, logical, diagnostics and fault-finding or, if you haven't got the necessary tools or skills, take it to a proper auto electrician - not a general mechanics garage but a time-served and qualified auto electrician.

  45. I am sure there were several threads regarding this topic and all ended-up being locked-out.... for reasons... With my IS250 I used to run the tank completely empty - my usual refill was 62-63L, 2 times actually run out of fuel and I was taking notes for each tank. 1 premium fuel does not give better fuel economy. Best fuel consumption was from my memory on cheapest ASDA fuel and worst on one of the premium ones, Potentially Tesco Momentum 99 or so. Counter argument for this - premium gives more power ECU detects it, puts more aggressive timing and as result more fuel is used. 2 cleaning effectiveness is mostly irrelevant for 4GR-FSE as it is direct injection only, it is hard to say whenever premium fuel reduced thing like carbon buildup, I even had hydrogen cleaning done and that had no effect on say emissions. 3 premium fuel cannot give you more power, ECU is set to certain power (unless that figure is changes) and it can only get up-to that power, yes indeed one can get less power of cheap fuel and closer to full power on premium fuel, but never more than it originally had. From many tanks of premium fuel I haven't noticed any different in power and sometimes I think it was even worse. So overall after 70k miles in IS250 I was under impression that premium fuel is nothing more than snake-oil. It may have additional cleaners, which may in long term slowdown the buildup of some dirt in engine and fuel system, but for that to matter we don't drive cars long enough. So my conclusion - I am not completely denying benefits of premium fuel, but I think for it to matter one may need to do 500k miles on the same engine to really benefit from it. Considering price difference over 500k miles, probably it pays for a new car anyway, so I doubt it is worth it. IF difference is like 3p, why not, but when difference is 15-20p... thanks I will spend it elsewhere.

  48. No wheels need to be off the vehicle. We are not all mechanical minded, so do not be afraid to ask better safe than sorry. Plenty on utube and the like. It seems daunting but is not really. Like above have said if your not confident you may know some body who is. Like most of us on here, things seems scary or complicated and really are not. At the end of the day we can not all be good at everything. Learning and doing these kind of jobs is satisfying and also saving money.

  49. Is it a job that can be done with the wheels on? ( Forgive my ineptitude )

  50. From past experience I have stopped using the usual choices of either molysuphide? or copper grease on my slider pins, I now used RRG (Red Rubber Grease) which is quite thick and only needs a thin smear but up to now 100% effective in preventing seized slider pins.
