  3. Lexus should have called it 'drive away from home in whisper mode' and nothing to do with energy saving. If all its good for is driving in car parks or away from the house quietly then they are lagging behind their competitors. It's not faulty just (and it is my opinion) near useless. 4. Hi I’ve been through something similar and may have some insight on recourse. Firstly, you have 30 days to reject the car or request that repairs should be made at no expense or inconvenience to yourself. This must be done in writing. If you phone the Citizens Advice consumer helpline they will help you and they have some very useful template letters to use. Someone mentioned above that you should demand a response within 3 days. A more reasonable time frame would be 28 days... but at least give the trader a reasonable chance to put things right. Phone number is 03454 04 05 06 https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/about-us/how-citizens-advice-works/citizens-advice-consumer-work/the-consumer-rights-act-2015/ if you explain to them the situation about you buying the car as spares or repairs in order to get a reduction they will tell you exactly where you stand. As a layman who knows just enough to be dangerous, my opinion is that this is dodgy behaviour from the dealer and may lead to them being referred to Trading Standards. The CA people will do this for you. Chances are that you won’t get anywhere with the first letter. You will then need to send a second letter as a “letter before court action” in which you give the dealer a reasonable amount of time to resolve the problem, giving them the option of mediation through using an Alternate Dispute Resolution Scheme. If this dealer is kosher, they will be a member of a trade body that offers such a scheme. Or you could offer to refer the case to an independent ADR scheme you select. Google search these. You will also need to cite the relevant legislation... it’s in the template letter. If you decide to keep the car, get quotes for the work you need to get done. Start with Lexus as this is the definitive. Then get at least one other quote from a reputable independent garage. Don’t have anything done yet. If the dealer is still refusing to play ball and has rejected mediation, start a claim by using moneyclaim.gov (0300 123 1057). Or go to your local county court and fill in form N1. You need to sue the trader and get the judgement before getting the car fixed. Oh, and start keeping a timeline of any interaction you have with the seller. Log all phone calls and send letters special delivery. Print off the delivery receipts for these. You can claim for consequential losses and damages resulting from the dispute providing you have the recipes and invoices (e.g. £99 receipt for a diagnostic and quote from Lexus). My theory is that the court may we’ll rule in your favour but given the fact you acknowledge you bought the car with known faults, may rule that you must send the car to a cheaper option than Lexus to get it fixed (although the trader will end up paying). of course this all takes time (and some outlay of funds) so most people who want their car on the road just throw their hands up, admit they’ve been had and move one with making the best of the situation. I urge you not to do this as this is the reason why dodgy b*****ds like this think they can carry on getting away with doing this. However, best wishes with what you decide to do.

  7. That's the thing - there is a list of 41 dealers who give discounts to Gold Club Members and also a list of 62 other "Gold Member Discounts" but neither list is viewable or available to us until we commit to being Gold Members and have paid our money. I would have thought that the way to encourage people to become Gold Members would be to give that information first so that we can make an informed decision.

  13. I'd be wary of purchasing a used battery pack to just replace a faulty one. Given the very small number of GS450h vehicles sold, and the high number of people with battery issues, you are likely to just have a similar problem at some point down the road. Better to get your existing one repaired, or purchase a used one to use for parts or get repaired itself.

  16. I presume they did their checks before they gave you the warranty right? And how long ago was it that you purchased the warranty because some of these issues don't exactly pop up overnight.

  17. I don't think there is such a thing as a " Invisible repair", I have had many chips repaired on various colours but you can always see them mainly because you no they are there and look in that particular area to find it. the problem is that you won't no how it looks until you have it done, will it look better that the chip out of the paint?,

  19. Sadly I don't hold out any hope for my ISF increasing in value, when I look at some of my previous car history. 1. I have a 70s Reliant Scimitar shell in storage. Has been since I was a kid. The reason it's still there and not restored is because it's always been possible to go out and buy a complete and running example for not much money. 2. E36 M3 and E39 M5. I had a pristine example of both. They were still falling in value when I sold mine, the M5 was already a classic M5 and certainly more lauded and desirable than an unknown Japanese saloon. I think good examples of these are only now starting to increase... years later. 3. Mk2 XR2s. I had 2 of these when I was 17. I think good ones are now worth a few k but that's 30 years after they were made and there's always been a huge following. I love my ISF, it's character reminds me so much of my old M5, but im not expecting to make any money on it in future.

  20. Agreed. It’s not like an old Ferrari where a person can make hundreds of thousands. Too many cars to enjoy to hold on to one that won’t return heaps of money.

  23. Not every fault will put up a code, and as you say, it may just be one that hasn't been erased. When I bought a diagnostic kit for my Volvo I found a couple of old codes but no current faults.

  24. Just as a rider to this when i picked up the 450 he asked me to run it for about 300 ml then come back and we will check it out for you, but then went onto say "Have you let the 12vt battery get low as a fault showed up on the Hybrid and we cant issue a Hybrid Certificate we have cleared the fault " but says I I have never had a fault show he said im sure it will be ok but it makes me wonder if it was a historical code that was on before i got the car as i had to have the 12vt battery changed a couple of months after purchase of the car I have had it just over 2 years. Can it have a fault without it showing a code He never told me The DTC Number.

  25. I am thinking about changing the dealer tbh, Lexus Glasgow refused to accept my Club Discount so what is the point to have it? Well, I will create a thread about it. THe prices you mention above are crazy cheap - can't be Lexus! Thanks Rayaans.

  26. Nope, He was helping me trying to see if i could get a 1 day cover driveaway as i was having problems for a few days trying to switch my ISF over to the LS600H, that failed so i logged back into my insurance to let him have a go and he done it.

  27. Just another thought- was the car a “grey import”. If it was then the dealer may well want to avoid too much scrutiny?

  28. I’ve had a similar issue. I took my car into Lexus for a full diagnostic (£99) and a quote for getting the work done today. The diagnostic revealed that there are three blocks (3,4,6) which give the fault codes P3013, P3014 and P3016. I think that this means that I need at least three and perhaps 6 cells replacing. Lexus has quoted me just under £2550 to replace the battery pack, but given the age and mileage of my car this isn’t economical. I’m therefore going to be contacting Richard to see about a refurb. The fan running all the time is symptomatic of the battery pack failing. Mine is also working over time. This will be dealt with when the battery is either repaired or replaced. On the way back from Lexus today, the car also went into limp mode 3 times. I therefore stopped for 30 minutes for lunch and let it cool down. I got home (last 20 miles) with no problems. The fact that the OP seems to have a more serious issue with the car cutting out suggests to me that the hybrid battery is very depleted which (in the worst case) means it may have already been refurbed and may need replacing. If you email Richard he will tell you,if he’s seen the car before. If he hasn’t, then he may be able to do something with it. Richard quoted me £2000 for a standard replacement with a 2 year warranty. However, you can pick up a used hybrid battery pack from Lithuania off eBay for £850 plus £60 delivery- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEXUS-GS-450H-06-11-HYBRID-BATTERY-PACK-ASSY-G9510-30030-2010/253792368143?hash=item3b1734360f:g:c7MAAOSw3vFbYv7i There’s another one from a domestic seller for £1399 which is well overpriced IMO. You could get the one from Lithuania and pay someone to fit it? I emailed the seller and asked about mileage. It’s done 78000km (I think he meant miles but you’d need to check- either way it should be good for a couple of years unless you’re very unlucky). Unfortunately it looks as though the seller isn’t a nice guy. He/she knew what they were doing. (B*****d!) I’d be interested to know what you paid if you’re willing to share? I paid £2.5k for mine. However, depending on mileage/year/condition etc, if you paid under £3k then you could still come away breaking even. Anyway, best wishes on getting it sorted! I know what it’s like to be sold a lemon. I certainly wouldn’t do that to anyone and wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

  29. I personally think they will ALL go up in value, none have sold in masses, some early toyotas are becoming quite expensive these days, the F brand broke the mold of a very well put together reliable “family” option, M and AMG performance with far superior quality and reliability.......personally I think it will gain more in the future than any M or AMG car of equivalent era

  30. I'd agree with everyone else that the radiator should be covered by warranty as it's not a wear and tear item. That is, unless it's been holed by a stone or something. That said, aftermarket radiators are just fine. Aftermarket air filters are fine too. I fitted one to my rx, a 10 minute job. Shocks can produce an oil mist around the piston rod and not be worn out. If it's light misting then save your money and don't bother. If it's a heavy leak then replace. The bushes do need replacing as with worn bushes in the front arms will affect the steering and your car will wander all over the place. The rear anti roll bar bushes are a tenner off eBay and are replaced by undoing four bolts. An easy DIY repair, easily accessible at the rear o the car. I did them myself. Not sure which dust covers are split. Warranties on a car that old are really only insurance against something electronic and expensive going wrong. Anything mechanical can be classed as worn out. I'd second what everyone else says and advise you talk to an independent specialist garage. As you've found out, the pretty expensive warranty isn't worth much on an older car.

  31. There comes a time in a cars life when its best to avoid a main dealer. I don't think yours has reached that just yet so I would get a second opinion. Lexus have a habit of magicking a few things up, weeping shocks being one - ask for photographic proof. Pads/ Discs / air filter are serviceable items...run your finger over the disc and see if there is a noticeable 'lip' on the outer edge..get an independent to replace. If the radiator has gone they are £100 online...warranty should cover it A CV boot weeping ? - a new clip of the jubilee type..as long as the boot isn't perished. - That said you purchased a warranty and they are royally taking the p_ss so fight every step of the way. The so called Full Lexus service history probably isn't but look into it. Why would all of these issues suddenly manifest themselves on the last service ?

  33. This should be a warranty issue. I bought an RX400h from a main dealer, a few months later I discovered a hole in the exhaust. They didn't want to know so I got Lexus UK involved on Twitter. The dealer had their arse kicked and I got a whole new exhaust system. That is a ripoff, just go to ECP or similar and fit it yourself. No tools required. As long as the CV joint is still working properly I wouldn't worry about this yet. Another ripoff. Just replace the shocks with compatible units, any garage can easily do this, it's a common job. The lower control arm bushes - I bet they're quoting for new arms. You can either get a garage you trust to source new bushings and install on the existing units, or you can buy whole new arms yourself and have a local garage install them (don't buy cheap Chinese rubbish from Ebay). Either option is way cheaper than their quote. Lol, ARB bushings are very cheap to install. Any garage can do this at a fraction of that price. Let your MOT station determine this. Not a serious issue unless the car is wandering around on the road, or the tyres are wearing abnormally. Don't do anything here until the suspension has been worked on. Fix the most important issues first, NOT at a Lexus dealer but at a local garage (maybe find a Toyota specialist, they're all the same bits). Work on the minor issues as and when you can afford them. Then enjoy the car, it will last a long time.

  36. I don't know how much the ml in the saloon differs from the convertible speaker wise, but it's certainly not lacking in the isc. I think the misnomer is that people expect the ml to be something it was never designed to be. The ml is audiophile. Its about authentic music reproduction. Hence the amp thd ( total harmonic distortion ) being 0.1 from 20htz to 20khtz. The full human hearing spectrum. The music sounding as faithful as to how the artist recorded it in the studio. Bass and treble settings don't make a huge difference to the sound overall. The pioneer based system could be best described as hi-fi. More punchy, maybe more dynamic sounding, i.e lively, but not sound accurate. As for bigger subs... This area is missunderstood. Increasing the bass can just muddy the midrange. I understand focal have a very good rep in car audio. So I had a browse. Linked below. Their p25 10inch sub is rated to 45htz. Some 25htz higher than the ml system. So it's not actually going that deep in the audio spectrum. https://www.focal.com/en/car-audio/car-audio-kits-solutions/performance/expert/subwoofers-bass-enclosures/sub-p-25-db A proper sub is a different beast. Generally found in home cinema systems, but again there are very few that can actually get near 20htz and even fewer that can do true subsonic bass. Bass you feel but cannot hear. Rel are one company that make audiophile subs that truly go subsonic. And they crack ceilings too... Everyone's ears perceive music differently. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

  38. The following show the standard equipment for the four trim levels of 2008 facelift models but are roughly similar to the 2005-07 original cars, indeed these original ones are probably better spec'd as on the facelift cars standard equipment was either deleted or became an optional extra. Those 'options' quoted in the Parkers guide are incorrect as all those features were standard on the SE-L (I believe the sunroof became an option from 2008 onwards). In fact cruise control and central locking are standard across the range and if it has a Mark Levison audio system it should have a DVD player. A 430, shown here in the newer 460 spec, wasn't sold with different trim levels so everything was standard. The only options options on a 430 were, I believe, metallic paint and a part wooden steering wheel and gear knob.

  41. Speaking of Led Zeppelin, the DTS soundtrack on this DVD sounds brilliant through a Mark Levinson system. I bought a number concert/music DVDs to play in the car when I had an ML system, including a few others featuring DTS sountracks but nothing sounded quite as epic as the Led Zep DVD.
