Managed to pick up a good second hand mirror the right colour off ebay. Came from Lithuania which was a concern but polished up like new. Fitting was not too hard, I managed to find a video on how to remove the door card: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5KYJ9JJZX0 just needed to be careful not to drop the nuts from the mirror inside the door. So all good, just need to decide on a dashcam now 😀2 points

Over the last week or so my MPG has dropped like a stone, I’ve been struggling to get 39mpg and that’s when I’ve been driving carefully, also the hybrid battery has been cycling from fully charged to discharged quite quickly, for my car this is quite unusual. I know the weather and outside temp can make a difference with MPG but it’s not been that cold, certainly not to have this much of an effect of consumption. From experience I had narrowed it down to two things 1) the 12v battery being dodgy 2) the hybrid fan filter. Having tested the 12v that was fine so I set about getting the bloody fan gauze filter out....... Yep, it was fluffed right up!! That’s only 25,000 miles worth of use as well. I cleaned it out with a hoover, put it all back together and took the car out for a run. No exaggeration it’s like driving a totally different car, fuel consumption within 10 miles has gone from an average of 39mpg to 45mpg and the hybrid battery feels a lot stronger, it doesn’t deplete as quickly. My 2006 has never let me down. I've been meaning to replace it for years, but can't justify it as to be honest it's still pretty much brand new in and out. It's an amazing car. I do less than 5,000 miles per year and only really use at weekends for short runs. When away, I plug a solar charger into the OBD and that keeps the battery topped up. I've never known a car to be so amazingly reliable and robust.2 points

Have they at least given you a courtesy car in the meantime? My next course of action would be to ask for a meeting with the dealer principal. Prepare a list of questions for the meeting and be very clear on the outcome you intend to reach and what you are willing to compromise on. When you meet, make it clear that you will minute the meeting. I'd suggest you take a third party with you as a witness. At the end of the meeting go through your notes with the dealer principal and get him to sign them... although he may refuse to. Alternatively, send an email with your typed up notes to the dealer principal and your third party. If you are not one for confrontation, I'd suggest you send a letter recorded delivery, requesting a response within x working days. You could also tell them that you are in the process of contacting the motoring press for some advice (Top Gear, WhatCar and other manazines all have consumer pages where letters are of complaints are published and commented upon. A company like Lexus which is consistently at the top of surveys for customer service will not want to see their reputation questionned). This approach has worked well for me in the past (no, it wasn't Lexus!) You could also try and contact Lexus via their twitter feed: they are usually very responsive. If you go to the bottom of the Lexus UK website, you will find links to their social media pages. You will also find a link to their Legal pages: this contains some advice on how to complain.2 points

I don't understand how you can deliberately run down the traction battery. My understanding is that it's charging is controlled automatically in order to ensure that there's always sufficient charge to keep the 12 v auxiliary battery charged, to be able to start the ICE and to cycle the batteries state of charge so as to promote its longevity. Have I missed something?1 point

When looking for some front LBJs a few years ago the Blueprint ones were more expensive than OEM Lexus. But worth comparing prices in general as they do seem to be of reasonable quality and sponsor quite a few magazine car repair projects.1 point

Woah slow down phil . . . . . I don't think you will be happy with coil overs if that's what you are thinking. I would have it investigated properly by a garage and if it is the strut then . . . . . . . I would replace with air strut.1 point

Just a general note on dealerships. They are **** at prepping and detailing used cars, even the Lexus dealerships are terrible at this, and they will never do a good job because doing it properly takes at least half/full day of a professionals time. That's why I'll never buy any type of bull**** sealant paint protection from a dealer as they simply won't detail the car properly before applying it, so what's the point! Also, I recommend to everyone that they don't get their car washed at the next service, unless you want it to come back caked in swirl marks! When buying a new car I generally just set aside a day for an intense detailing session.1 point

Wow you learn something new every day. That is strange considering they don’t even bother undercoating a lot of cars in Japan. I had a VW Bora imported from Japan. No undercoating like the UK models but 100% rust free.1 point

For the avoidance of doubt or misunderstanding.........I had no intention of offending anyone and immediately withdrew my contribution when it was queried by Ian. Ian accepted my apology and he deemed the matter closed. The matter remains closed.1 point

Thanks Andrew. I got my tracking done a couple of months ago but had continued to experience horrible wandering and tramlining. I thought maybe the tyres were overdue replacement, albeit there is a reasonable amount of tread on them. However, when visiting a different local tyre place the guy suggested having the tracking checked again and he discovered it was very, very adrift of the correct settings. Seems there are two settings covering the GS450H and it seems the previous garage had used the wrong ones. Possibly the settings were changed at a particular time or build date. I’ve postponed replacing the tyres (currently Yokohama) until the new year, when I’ll do all four with a premium brand. Either way, with the tracking done correctly the car drives utterly sublimely - I was almost in tears when I drove it out of the tyre garage and down the road for the first time It’s so much more relaxing not having to fight the steering all the time and makes driving (ahem) briskly an utter breeze! No plans this weekend so I may fill it to the brim on Saturday morning and take it on a couple of nice long drives 🙂1 point

Haven't got the smart card but have the normal smart entry key. I find that sometimes says low battery if it's in my trouser pocket with my wallet. I think the signal gets blocked somewhat if you have other items around it as I replaced the battery but still get the same message from time to time. Make sure the key is less obscured / covered and see of it still does it.1 point

Lovely shape those Tesla cars. From what I've seen on YouTube the acceleration is eye watering. Could anyone else other than a dealer service your car?. The technology would suggest it would be wise to stick with a dealer regardless of the cost and for the warranty to be honoured..1 point

This minimum speed issue for AHBC has been discussed several times before on here. Search for AHBC and you will find the threads. It has also been reported to Lexus apparently to no avail. The people who designed the system must live in the city and not in a rural area.1 point

I never have anyone in the back of my car so it’s not a problem to me but if needed I’d get some generic ones from Halfords. It’s not like they need to be that secure like the drivers one. By the way the fronts are amazing pieces of kit (I know it’s just a rubber floor mat) and I’ve never seen a drivers one that incorporates the foot rest. Very high quality and excellent design.1 point

If you find the advanced auto dip/high beam system works satisfactorily in all respects other than the speed of initiation, you could get a more definitive reply from Lexus on whether it can be coded to the way you would like.1 point

I agree the H J web site is the best by far. But left foot braking is not for me. I tried it for about 10 days and was a danger to myself and every other road user with 100 meters of my car.1 point

This is coming as a company car purchase via Arval so I very much doubt I’ll get any goodies unfortunately. Yes, it is coming from Lexus Newcastle, they’ve been fantastic throughout the whole process - in fact the business manager remembered me from when we bought a 3 series cab from them and from when I had my Porsche MOT-ed there about 5 years ago! Given the 10,000 mile service interval they won’t forget me as I’ll be there every 6 months. Bloody hell Richard - no pressure 😂 I’m making no promises but never say never (I don’t even know how to post pics on here)1 point

Sceptisism noted but I find the system genuinly useful when driving on dark country roads. The way the system automatically adjusts the beam to oncoming cars seems to work well. I do a regular 30 mile drive on an unlit rural road and not having to worry about dazzling oncoming drivers does make it a bit easier.1 point

Thought I'd provide a better video somewhere I wouldn't annoy the neighbours. Sounds fantastic but still quiet during normal driving inside the cabin. Of course all this was filmed on my private road in Mexico.1 point

The high beam activation speed is "proper" if low beam height is well adjusted, unluckily all Lexus cars I had had low beam quite "low", and I had to adjust them all to obtain a good vision. Besides, in newer RX high beam lights have the feature to select beam off to the area occupied by vehicles keeping keeping beam all around on, very effective.1 point

The AHB on our GS450h is totally useless - dips far too late, then won't renable, eventually does, then dips randomly, then goes into a sulk and never puts the high beams on ever again. The AHB on our Tesla is a lot better - but it's too quick and too sensitive. It's flicking the high beams on and off like a disco as it reacts to parked cars (reflectors lighting up that it thinks are tail lights), chevron signs, etc. Neither one is actually usable.1 point

When I had my BMW F30 that's exactly how the blue/red combo was described. And I have to say it did look splendid. Not a choice many would make on paper but in the flesh quite striking. And honest offer but if you post a pic with your pants on top of your trousers at car handover I'll donate £50 to a children's charity of your choice. No pressure1 point

Hi guys. Update on my lexus ux takumi which I purchased brand new in July 2019. My car is still at the dealers still getting nowhere.Been touch with customer relations 5 times they never get Back in touch with me, I always have to phone them. Lost count how many times I have phoned the dealers. Just get a load of lies like we are getting the tech man never happened. Then we are waiting for the area manager, never happened.now we are supposed to be waiting for the managing director.I will believe that when I see it. As i said in my my post I reported the blind spot monitor only picking vehicles 50% of the time on the passenger side. Its perfect on the driver side. And my auto dip headlights don’t dip blinding on coming traffic. Have to put it on manual. I hope lexus don’t try to make driverless cars because they will kill people. My car has been sitting in the dealers now for 15 days and hasn’t been touched. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING1 point

OK, fair enough, I know that the car comes equipped with 'auto high beam' but honestly, have we really become so lazy that we can't just flick a finger to maually switch the headlamps ourselves? I'm not having a pop at you Lukas, I'm just thinking that this is a piece of technology that doesn't really need to exist and has been developed solely for no other reason except 'just because they can'.1 point

Internet pint on it’s way to you Sir !! Half a can of easy start later and it spluttered into life spitting clouds of fuel out of the exhausts (took a minute or so to clear). No real diagnosis of why, other than maybe change the plugs if they’re getting old - I guess it’s one of those “time will tell” moments as to whether it was a one off or something else is going on. Hats off to the RAC though, phoned them at 09:00, man and a van on my drive by 10:00 - can’t grumble at that! Thanks All, Jim1 point

Hi I completely agree that this is unacceptable , all Lexus main dealers are not infallible and all 'technicians' are not equal ,I agree take the car to another dealer ,I'm sure it can be promptly fixed . Dave1 point

Depending on how long you have had the car and how many miles you have covered, you may have ground to "reject" the car. I am not familiar with the process, but someone on here may be able to provide details, or you may find this online. The Citizen Advice Bureau may also be able to point you in the right direction. This link might be useful: https://www.thecarexpert.co.uk/rejecting-a-car/ I am not sure that the faults you have are "significant" enough to justify a reject though.1 point

You may need to adjust the tracking as well as replacing the tyres. No idea what the oem tyres were, but I don’t think it really matters. Any decent brand (lots of opinions on here about tyres) will do. I run Michelin Pilot Sport 4s on my GS450H, no complaints. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

If you've been without your new car for ten days and the dealer doesn't seem to be able to resolve the issues, then it might be time to politely involve Lexus Customer Services. When I had a hard to to find issue/resolution with my first NX they liaised with the dealer and sent one of their tech guys to the dealership. The problem was found and resolved within a couple of days after weeks of previous attempts.1 point

No suggestions from the dealer, no thoughts at all? My first would be a faulty nearside radar sensor, possibly dodgy connection or chaffing loom. The headlamps not dipping, gotta be something with the front screen mounted camera, either adjustment/alignment or possibly a screen blemish. Any or all would throw up some error codes, or be fairly easy to check. I'd suggest taking the car to another dealership. Exactly how new is the car, how many miles on the clock?1 point
-
I've corrected my error using the Edit button. Yes, I tried the left-foot braking after reading his suggestion a few years ago, just to keep an open mind, as you do, but no, not for me!1 point

I am just as avid a reader too Jeff. His view re left foot braking is his view which he holds for reasons which are good to him. I tried it once.......and nearly broke my nose!!1 point

Royoftherovers beat me to it re H.J. I read about the Lexus Taxi on www.honestjohn.co.uk which I read late Friday or Saturday every week as I like to read the 'Honest John's Motoring Agony Column'. There's a Part 1 and a Part 2 which are dated for the Saturday but are often uploaded to the site late afternoon/evening each Friday. There's some useful/interesting information on there and as a Lexus owner it really makes me feel rather smug when I read the horror stories from owners of VAG Group cars and Mercedes and BMW😃. I too would never change from Lexus/Toyota. However, there is one thing that really annoys me about Honest John (and I'm not alone) and that is his insistence that an automatic should be driven two-footed. He reckons the only safe way to drive an auto is to use left-foot braking. I just don't get it. All my cars have been autos for about the last 40 years and I've always driven them right-footed. Apart from that the site is a good read. No doubt this will bring about a discussion on how to drive an auto? Feel Free!1 point

I have a 2013 is300h Premier that I purchased from new, it really is the best car I have ever had, I regularly get around 30 to 35,000 miles from the tyres I had the front brake pads and discs changed for the first time since new at 140,000 miles and the current mileage is 154,000 miles still on the original brake pads and discs on the rear from new. Driving it normally I get between 48 and 54 miles per gallon. Also servicing costs are less than my old car which was a 4-wheel drive Nissan Qashqai. After six years of very pleasurable driving it looks like new, it drives like new. Never let me down, love the Lexus brand and will not change to another manufacturer. Many thanks to Lexus Birmingham who have been excellent and serviced the car every 10000 miles since I purchased it from them in August 2013.1 point

The best car i have ever driven! I have talked to a guy how works at the Dutch AA Roadside Assistance company. He said he had never have to do something on a IS300h besides a flat tire or a empty 12VDC battery. He had seen IS300h with 350k After that conversation i bought for mine a new 12VDC battery for 50 euro and 4 run-flats Bridgestone driveguard. So they will never see me 🙂1 point
